BECOME A MEMBER
AT THE VILLAGE CHURCH
TVPC offers a number of Inquirers’
Classes for individuals interested in membership. The schedule for 2007 includes classes on September 30th, and November 18th. All classes are from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and include time with our pastoral staff, a church tour and a light supper. For information on the
next class contact us at tvpchurch@tvpchurch.org.
Six Reasons to JOIN TVPC:
- A church family identifies you as a BELIEVER in Jesus Christ.
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are
my disciples.”
~ John 13:35
- A church family moves you out of SELF-CENTERED
ISOLATION.
The biblical example shows us that though Jesus calls individuals into
discipleship, he also calls them into fellowship in a faith community.
There are no ‘lone-ranger’ Christians in the New Testament.
- A church family helps you develop SPIRITUAL
MUSCLE.
“As each part does its special work, it helps the other parts grow,
so that the whole body is healthy and growing and
full of love.” ~ Ephesians 4:16
- The Body of Christ NEEDS YOU.
Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every
army has an enlistment. Membership identifies our family.
“A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means for
helping the entire church.” ~ 1 Cor. 12:7
- You will share in GOD’S MISSION
in the world.
“He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he
does,
the good works he has gotten ready for us to do,
work we had better be doing.”
~ Ephesians 2:10
- A church family will KEEP YOU ACCOUNTABLE.
The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to
be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable
when you’re not committed to any specific church family.
“Encourage one another daily…so
that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
~ Hebrews 3:13
MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
At TVPC we never ask our members to do
more than the Bible clearly teaches; we only expect what the Bible expects
every Christian to do. These responsibilities are expressed in the Membership
Covenant and fall into three primary categories:
1. COMMITMENT TO CHRIST
… By praying and studying Scripture and the faith of the
Christian Church
… By seeking to live a Christ-like life
… By living responsibly in your personal, family, vocational, political,
cultural, and social relationships
2. COMMITMENT TO THE VILLAGE CHURCH COMMUNITY
… By taking part in the common life and worship of the church.
… By seeking genuine Christian fellowship in a group or class,
and acting in love toward other members.
… By supporting the work of the church through the giving of
money, time and talents.
… By participating in the governing responsibilities of the church
3. COMMITMENT TO OTHERS
… By proclaiming the good news
… By developing a servant’s heart and discovering my gifts
and talents
… By working with the pastors, elders and deacons of this church
… By working in the world for peace, justice, freedom and fulfillment |
